OUR STORY

HBC was conceptualized and initiated by Dharitri Patnaik, India Representative, Bernard van Leer Foundation. She was deeply influenced by her visit to Infant in Peru, an organization working with children and her previous experience in working on child rights issues. In the ideation stage of the campaign, she was supported by many people among which are Michael Feigelson, Executive Director of Bernard van Leer Foundation and Ranjan Panda, an activist and campaigner on environment. Mihir Mohanty was the first National Campaign Coordinator and worked with a small team. The campaign was officially launched on 6 May 2013, at Bhubaneswar and has spread to 17 states and 23 cities reaching out to 35,000 young children across India through 428 child clubs in 437 slums as of July 2015.
